June 13: #30 Detour day. Change your routes all day, everywhere you go, make at least one different
Phil: My travels were from Brooklyn to Long Island to visit my buddy Pete. I was more hoping this would land on a day I had work, because it’s much easier to detour that route. But I did take a different subway to the LIRR, and took a different route for my morning coffee, etc. It wasn’t as impactful as it could have been on a more busy day, rather than on my “Saturday,” but it’s also just a reminder of something I’m going to just keep trying throughout the month.
Bruce: It’s incredible to me how ingrained we are in our routines and our routes. There are several times today where I had to remind myself after pretty much blindly navigating that the goal today was to veer off and do something different. When I went to the gym I admittedly took my customary way but on my way home I stopped in a parking lot going way off the beaten path and wander down the trail to take photos for reference for an album that I’m working on that I need to do photography for. Location scouting I guess you’d say, which is sort of a great task for a day like today. I took a completely different route to work than I normally would although that landed me 15 minutes late (luckily to no consequence). My favorite part of the day was unquestionably my wander through the woods and finding the creek with the bridge and taking photos of it, that alone made the day special as I had been hoping to do that for quite a while and this prompted me to do so.
